DSD COMPETITION TEAM 2025/2026 INFORMAtion

Competition Team Guidelines

We are delighted to welcome you and your child to our Competition Team. Participation requires commitment, teamwork, and clear communication between students, parents, and staff. Please read the following information carefully to ensure a smooth and successful competition year.

Commitment to the Team

Students and parents must be fully committed to the Competition Team. Attendance and dedication are essential for the success of the group.

  • If a student misses more than two classes per term without a legitimate reason, they may be asked to leave the team.
  • Absences affect the entire group when learning and rehearsing dances. Each student’s space on the team is valuable and could be offered to someone who can attend consistently.
  • We fully understand that illness or family emergencies may arise; these are, of course, acceptable reasons for absence. Please inform us as soon as possible in such cases.

Transport to Competitions

  • Students are responsible for arranging their own transport to competitions.
  • Transport will not be provided by the school.
  • We encourage families to car-share or travel together where possible.

Arrival at Competitions

  • Students must arrive at least 1 hour and 30 minutes before their first scheduled performance.
  • This ensures enough time for warm-up, preparation, and costume checks.

Parental Responsibility at Competitions

  • Unless otherwise stated, parents are responsible for their child throughout each competition day.
  • Staff are there to support the dancers and ensure they are ready to perform but are not responsible for the child’s supervision.
  • Dancers must arrive with hair and make-up completed for their first dance. Specific styling instructions will be provided beforehand.
  • Costumes will be issued to students before their first competition or performance.
  • Parents/students must care for and return all costume pieces at the end of the dance year.
    • Please do not machine wash costumes; hand wash only if absolutely necessary.
    • Costumes will be professionally cleaned after they are returned.
  • If you feel your child is mature enough to attend a competition without parental supervision, this is entirely at your discretion. However, the school will not be responsible for them in this case.

Costume Hire Fees

To cover the cost of maintaining and updating team costumes, we require an annual costume hire fee. This is significantly less than purchasing costumes outright and must be paid at the start of the competition year.

Mini Competition Team £10

Junior Competition Team £10

Mids Competition Team £15

Senior Competition Team £15

Hair and Jewellery in class

  • Hair must always be neat and slicked back, either in a bun or another upstyle (no fringes or loose hair).
  • No ponytails or hair down are permitted.
  • Only small stud earrings may be worn in class, and this is at the parent’s own risk.
  • Hair accessories must match the team uniform.
  • No earrings, jewellery, or visible tattoos are allowed at competitions. Please ensure any temporary tattoos are removed before competition days.
  • No nail varnish is allowed at competitions.

Uniform Requirements

All Competition Team members must own and wear the designated team uniform:

Any of the DSD branded items.

Competition Attendance

Please inform us as soon as possible if your child cannot attend a competition. Most competitions require entries and deposits around 6 months prior to the competition,  if we do not hear from you, we will presume your child is attending.

Every absence requires us to restructure routines, which affects the entire group. Each change means other dancers must relearn positions and may perform under additional pressure. Your cooperation and communication are greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to our Competition Team. Together, we can ensure that every student has a rewarding, positive, and successful experience.
