DSD COMPETITION TEAM 2024/2025 DATES AND INFORMAtion

Commitment to the team
Students must be prepared to be completely committed to the competition team and parents must also support this. If a student misses more than two classes a term without a legitimate reason, then they will be asked to leave the competition team. When learning dances, if students are not present it affects the whole team and is letting them down, as well as the fact that their space on the team is being taken from another student who may be more committed to classes. Obviously, illness or family crises cannot be helped, and we fully understand this

Transport to competitions
Students will need to find their own transport to competitions. Unless it is out of Scotland, we will not be arranging any transport for the girls. I would recommend sharing lifts in a car or travelling with other people.

Arrival at competitions

Students must always arrive at least 1 hour 30 minutes prior to the their first slot at a competition.

Parents responsibility

  • Unless we say otherwise parents are in charge of their child at competitions.
  • We will not be in charge of your child.
  • We are there to support the children and get them ready to dance.
  • We are not in charge of getting your child ready for the competition and they must always come with their hair and make-up done for their first dance (they will have been told what this is beforehand).
  • You or your child will be given their comp team costumes prior to their first competition or performance.
  • You or your child must look after these costumes and hand them back to me at the end of the dance year with all pieces.
  • Please can we ask that you do not wash these as we wash them all after you return them.
  • Please only hand wash if it is needed.
  • If you feel like your child is old enough and okay to be on their own at a competition without you this is absolutely fine, but it has nothing to do with us.

Costume hire
Due to the amount of costumes, we must buy and look after for competition team we ask for a yearly costume hire fee which is a lot less than buying them all yourself. This must be paid at the start of the competition year.
Mini comp team-£10 per year
Junior comp team-£10 per year
Mids comp team-£15 per year
Senior comp team-£15 per year

Hair & Jewellery for Competition Team

  • Hair should always be slick back and neat either in a bun or a hairstyle where hair is up and off face (no fringes).
  • No hair down or ponytails, this is not acceptable.
  • Only stud earrings can be worn to class at the child/parents own risk.
  • All hair accessories should match uniform.

No earrings or jewellery will be allowed at competitions so they must be able to take them out by then.
No tattoos are allowed for competitions either so please make sure that near competition time they are not using them.

Uniform for Competition Team
The following items are compulsory and each child on comp team must have these.

Minis/Juniors/Mids/Seniors

Competition team leotard, jacket, and shorts/ leggings

Until students own the comp team leotard, jacket, and leggings, they should wear plain black leggings to class with no writing, logos, or designs on them alongside a leotard.
Please remember once your child has out grown these items that you will be able to sell them on the FB page. This means you will get money back to put towards a new one.

We ask that if your child cannot attend any competitions that you tell us ASAP. If I do not hear from you, I will presume that your child is attending. Every time a child does not attend a performance or competition, we have to change the dances. This may not seem much to some people but every time we make a change the dancers are having to relearn and are often going on stage thinking about their new positions rather than performing to their best.
